The BC Alpine Girls Fast Forward Program group has been working hard throughout the challenging 2020/21 season to create initiatives to enable female athletes to develop a stronger understanding of high performance development, the role of regional and club FIS teams in their athletic development, what is required to achieve BC Ski Team criteria, the purpose and objectives of the BC provincial team, and ultimately what is required to compete at the World Cup level.
These BC Alpine subsidized projects, approved by the BC Alpine Board in Spring 2020, have been designed to help BC clubs promote and foster a culture of hard work, while increasing skill levels and highlighting the pathway to the BC Ski Team and beyond.
Due to challenges associated with this pandemic and the shutdown of travel within the province, the GFF Program plans have been forced to adapt as we await the Provincial Health Order to ease travel and competition restrictions.
Even though we are not yet able to travel, we are preparing for when we can. The dates for these scheduled camps are subject to change as we work within our Provincial Health Order guidelines, but the plan will be executed as soon as possible. In the meantime, we will continue our Girls Fast Forward Athlete and Coach chats to amplify female-identifying voices within our ski racing community.
The primary goal of this new BC Alpine Girls Fast Forward High-Performance initiative is to help female club athletes achieve BC Ski Team criteria. These camps will be subsidized and supported by some of BC’s top coaches. BC Alpine will not be able to provide actual costs until we have firm athlete numbers.
Our Original Girls Fast Forward annual camp will continue for ages U14+, and will be announced soon.
*If the PHO does not allow us to travel in April, we will look to train in Whistler in May and keep adjusting accordingly.
