Mars BC Cup Racing gets underway at Sun Peaks Resort

A foot of new snow overnight was cause for a short delay in the start of the race as the ROC worked to clear the course, but it certainly didn't slow down the racers as they charged out of the start to kick off day one of the Mars BC Cup. It was Giant Slalom on the calendar Friday, and the races went off without a hitch!

Lindsay Kraft of Vernon and the BC Ski Team clocked the fastest time of the day, completing two runs in one minute, 41.25 seconds. Kelsey Serwa of the Big White racers wasn't far behind, coming second in 1:41.40. The third podium step was reserved for Elizabeth Parry of Australia, with a time of 1:43.74.

At the end of the day for the men, Jeff Hume of Whistler was wearing the gold medal for his combined time of 1:38.69. Morgan Pridy of the Whistler Mountain Ski Club put down a pair of blistering runs to take second spot in 1:40.57. We know it's a split second sport and this is as close as it gets - Pridy's teammate Alexander Matheson finished just one hundreth of a second behind, taking the number 3 spot.
