BC ALPINE: FIS REGISTRATION

This page will help you understand the process for FIS Registration in BC. It is broken down into two sections:

  1. REGISTRATION FROM AN ATHLETE or PARENT PERSPECTIVE
  2. REGISTRATION FROM A CLUB PERSPECTIVE

1. Registration from an Athlete or Parent Perspective

The first and most important thing you need to do when registering for FIS is to contact your club.  Any requirements that that club have for FIS registration will supersede BC Alpine’s requirements, so be sure to contact them to go over their specific guidelines. The deadlines you will see on our website are all geared at the clubs, which means that generally the deadlines for you will be earlier than our advertised deadlines for the club, as the club needs to manage the data you give to them before sending it on to us.

What will be common for all clubs is the minimum required paperwork which is required to satisfy BC Alpine, Alpine Canada and FIS.  There are three forms that are requires in order to sign up.  Please keep in mind that all of these papers must be delivered to your club with ORIGINAL INK ON PAPER signatures, no photocopies or electronic copies can be submitted for FIS applications.

The required forms are:
  1. ACA Registration Form
  2. ACA Medical Evaluation Form
  3. FIS Athlete Declaration
Important items to keep in mind:
  1. All forms must be original ink on paper.
  2. Make sure to contact your club as soon as possible and keep in contact with them.
  3. Book an appointment with your doctor to get the Medical Evaluation done.  Don't let difficulties in getting the appointment done make your registration late!
For registration costs, please keep in mind that the clubs need to keep their programs running, and the cost for registration must include these costs (coaches salaries, club administration, etc) so do not use BC Alpine's advertised registration fees as a benchmark on how much registration will cost.  Be sure you contact your club.

2. Registration from a Club Perspective

On line registration is required first and foremost for FIS registration.  Be sure that the members you are going to be registering for the season appear on the BC Alpine Registration Database through your Club Admin Login in order for them to be submitted for FIS cards.

When registering them on line be sure to check if they are a returning member.  Most registrants in FIS came from FIS or from K2 and already have information in the database including their existing FIS number or ACA number.  Renewing these registrations instead of adding a new record is important.  It allows us to maintain cohesive statistical information in the database as well as makes the registration faster for you, us, and Alpine Canada.

Managing the Paperwork:

FIS paperwork is the only registration paperwork that is needed to be sent in to BC Alpine. When the deadline comes for FIS paperwork to be sent in, please bundle each member's paperwork together.  BC Alpine goes through each piece of paper for each member and verifies that the information is properly filled out and is an original document (ink on paper) and not a photocopy.  Keeping them bundled by person allows us to easily track the documents.

The ACA Medical form requires a photograph attached to it.  We recommend stapling the picture to the paper so that it is less likely to become dislodged, however also recommend printing the member's name on the back of the photo in case it does fall from the paper.

In the registration database, there is a utility under Club Reports / Competitor Cards called "Required Paperwork Process".  This utility allows for you to track what paperwork you've already sent in to BC Alpine, as well as see what paperwork BC Alpine has received.  Although using this system isn't required, it may help out the registrar and should be looked at.

Deadlines:

The pricing structure changes throughout the year for FIS registration, and the registration point we use to determine how much is required for payment is based upon what is entered into the BC Alpine registration database.  Paperwork not being sent in on time can lead to the registration date being changed in the database and the cost increasing, so be sure to keep track of the timelines for your current registration year.

FIS Card Creation:
FIS registration is a slow and multi-step process.  Sometimes the time from registering the athlete on line to having their card # generated can be up to 4 weeks.  If you are unsure about the status of a registration please contact BC Alpine.

Any questions or concerns about FIS registration can be directed to BC Alpine's office.
