For the second year in a row, Mike Janyk and Manuel Osborne Paradis of the Canadian Alpine Ski Team have announced that they plan to invite ten young racers to a FREE ski camp in Whistler - this year's Cowboy Camp will take place April 30th to May 3rd, 2009. This amazing opportunity to ski with the best in the country is available to athletes who will be in their first or second year of FIS during the 2009/2010 season. You can find all the details about who qualifies and how to apply in the BC Alpine news article "Back Again for 2009 - Mike and Manny's Cowboy Camp - Apply by March 20th"

As many people reading this probably know, I've developed some interesting FIS points referencing systems for the BC Alpine website in the past year. I mentioned in one recent E-Update that it was because of the FIS database standards that we are able to do these sort of cross references and results comparisons. Unfortunately however, this same option was not available to national points yet and that was the reason why the system was developed to be limited to FIS results and competitors only.
A very well documented request from Mike Walls (Vice President of the Kimberley North Star Racers) has been sitting on my desk since January 14th asking for a reporting option from the national results that is close to one recently made for the FIS results. Initially I didn't believe it was possible, but I have been running some concepts against the idea and finally found a way to successfully (I hope) make this type of report available to BC's clubs.
An earlier upgrade done to our calendar on bcalpine.com added the ability for our races to have the FIS-Style XML formatted results uploaded instead of the flat TXT results. Any race that has results submitted to BC Alpine in XML format and is a part of our Teck Juvenile Race Series is therefore stored in a "data" format which is available to be reported on. I have created a page which allows the finish results from these races to be viewed in a way that I hope Mike Walls and others can use to simplify their jobs.
I currently have this page in a "testing" format as I have not had much time yet to try to find ways of breaking it. But even though it is not yet on the navigation of the website, I openly invite anyone interested in testing this system out to visit: http://bcalpine.com/results/kinderresults/
Any feedback you could give me would be appreciated, especially if you find errors on it!
(If you find it useful, make sure you drop a note to Mike at KNSR and thank him for documenting the idea so well for me.)
