Four Hundred and Eighty Nine

We've been rattling together statistics, results and numerous post-season reports in the BC Alpine office for the last week (which IS EXACTLY as exciting as it sounds) and I would like to share a little piece of information with you which jumped out at me as soon as I saw it.

A whopping 489 volunteers expressed their commitment to our sport this year through the BCAlpine.com volunteer sign up utility.  Twenty-nine events were set up by their clubs to allow the online sign-up this season which means that on average, each of them got 17 volunteers signed up for their event through our calendar.

The sign up form allows people to enter the date they will be arriving and departing from the event they are volunteering for, so I ran a quick calculation on that and came up with (after weeding out a few odd ones where people seemed to think they were departing days before they arrived in the first place) 1,905 days at events from the volunteers!  That's nearly five and a quarter years spent at events from the volunteers this year alone and that is only looking at the ones that used the BC Alpine website to sign up for the event, which is a tiny tip of the volunteer iceberg.

BC Alpine keeps a lot of interesting data on record.  Many of the clubs, zone reps and coaches in the province know that they can contact me if they have a request for specific data reports and I think 95% of those requests get what they are after from us, and those that don't, prompt the building of new methods of data collection so that the data can be obtained in the future.  In the last week alone I have created reports on everything from zone numbers by year of birth to  reports showing which athletes moved from one club to another in the last year.  Is there some tidbit of data or specialized report that your club is after?  Let me know.
