Registration dates are a funny thing at BC Alpine as only the FIS ones are really strict. The others are "for your consideration" more than anything. What is important though is that the idea about when registrations should be done is understood, so I want to go over this briefly.
"If a person is involved in something, they should be registered prior to participating."
That's about as simple as I can put it. This is very important however as (like any other insurance policy) we can't retroactively activate it. So if you want to ensure coverage, make sure that your members are registered before they take part in any events.
Coaches are often forgotten when it comes to registration and looking at our current registration numbers this year for Coaches, I have to conclude that some of the clubs are putting themselves at risk by not having all their Coaches registered. As with other members, be sure that your coaches sign off on the ACA Waiver and that a paper copy is kept on record at the club.
Dryland Results Tracking:
Many of the clubs may have noticed changes to the BC Alpine Club Administration Database over the last few weeks. One of the major changes was the ability to add "roles" to the people you give access to the database. The first new "role specific" item that was recently activated is the Athlete Dryland Tracking System. We are expecting all clubs to adopt this tracking system and give their coaches access to start managing their athletes' results this season. With proper commitment, this could become a foundation product for many future athlete development decisions, so the more data we collect, the better informed our decisions will be. At current point no reports are available, but in the near future you will be able to find reports to compare your athletes to others in clubs throughout the province.
Instructions on how to give your coaches access will be available in the database and instructions for the use of the Athlete Dryland System and can be found in the section marked "COACHES AREA" / "DRYLAND".
