 • ALPINE CANADA WAIVER SIGNING SITE NOW ONLINE

New for this season, BC Alpine has created a portal for members to log in and update their contact information with us, sign the ACA waiver (Required to complete your registration this season) as well as manage other account information.  In order to log in, your club needs to have registered you with BC Alpine and you must have access to the email address on record for your account.

NOTE: it is MANDATORY this year that all members sign the ACA waiver, either in person and give it to the club, or via this online system.  Our database will be tracking all signatures - members who have not signed using one of these methods will NOT be covered by our insurance.  This applies to all members, not just racers, so even if you are a parent or supporter at the club be sure to go through the steps of making sure you are covered!

 • SERWA, SIMMERLING,TERWIEL MAKE THE CUT & STAY WITH 2010 ACCELERATION TEAM
As part of the largest-ever Canadian Alpine Ski Team - 44 racers in all - Alpine Canada Alpin has named nine women to the new 2010 Acceleration Team. These high potential athletes will focus on gaining valuable experience against tough international competition.  Selected in the spring to participate in an intensive summer program that included dryland and on-snow training, they had to earn the right to stay with the group for the remainder of the season. Former BC Ski Team athletes Georgia Simmerling of West Vancouver (Grouse Tyee Ski Club), Kelsey Serwa of Kelowna (Big White Racers) and Elli Terwiel of Heffley Creek (Sun Peaks Alpine Club) were offered an opportunity to train with the best and they met the challenge head on. They fought hard and proved that’s exactly where they belong – with the best!  (Read full News Release with quotes and photos)
 • MEN'S TEAM UPDATE BY GLENN THOMSEN
Summer training is over with five very successful on-snow camps completed. The dryland program ran non-stop this year from May to the end of October with a two month uninterrupted block in July and August. Our final physical lab tests which are taking place November 3rd and 4th at UBC will give us an indication of just how successful our dryland program has been this year.  Cindy Thomson of PacificSport has played a key role in the design and implementation of our dryland programs and although the boys were rewarded with great gains in their strength and fitness, they are not sad to see the end of the big dryland push.  Everyone is looking forward to focusing on their first love – ski racing!  They are all healthy and fit with the exception of Stan Rey who suffered a concussion during our Portillo, Chile ski camp. We expect Stan to be fully recovered and ready to join us on snow beginning November 9th at Panorama. The boys will have a very busy November and December, forerunning the Men’s World Cup Downhill and Super G in Lake Louise as well as racing in 12 different starts before Christmas. We are definitely ready to rumble!! Here are the BC Team guys to watch for:  Ben Thomsen (Windermere Valley Ski Club), Conrad Pridy (Whistler Mountain Ski Club), Morgan Pridy (Whistler Mountain Ski Club), Sasha Zaitsoff (Red Mountain Racers), Stan Rey (Whistler Mountain Ski Club) and Mat Leduc (Mt. Washington Ski Club)
 • NANCY O'NEILL WOMEN'S TEAM UPDATE
The Women's BC Ski Team took quite a hit when Victoria Whitney (Whistler Mountain Ski Club) suffered a season-ending knee injury during a training camp in Portillo, Chile. Surgery to repair her ACL was successful and she is well on her way to a full recovery.  Smiling and taking it all in stride, Toria is looking forward to lots of physio and wrapping up grade 12!  FULL NEWS ARTICLE

Vic Glowczynski had an excellent opportunity to train along side her old teammates on the 2010 Acceleration team in Farnham. She had a great camp despite some tough conditions - winter really hit hard while we were there and the powder skiing was amazing!  Unfortunately Sandra MacDonald wasn't able to join us in Farnham, but she is coming back steadily from her bout with mono and is working with Cindy Thomson (PacificSport) who has given her an individualized training program to follow.  The BC Team women will spend most of November and December living and training at Panorama and Nancy hopes to be able to work with some of the young “up and coming” girls in the province during that time.
OFFICIALS
 • MARK ARMOUR'S OFFICIALS NEWS
I ask everyone for your patience as I slowly dip my toes into my new position as Officials' Chair.  A number of well-attended events hosted by BC Alpine (TD Update; timing seminar by Ted Savage; Dr. Bob Morrell's concussion presentation) as well as the FIS Update in Vancouver last weekend have been an informative start to the season for all of us.  Also, there a lot of new information in the current FIS Provisional Precisions (final after Nov.4 meeting) and in BC Alpine's 07/08 Green Book (now available). I would suggest all officials and course conductors make themselves familiar with this material on the web. TD assignments are in the draft phase right now and will be in place on the calendar as soon as possible. A reminder to everyone - if you are helping at any of our events, you must be a club member, and sign the ACA waiver in order to fulfill our insurance requirements. I look forward to seeing you all on the hill!
