BC Alpine Ski Association is proud to announce the names of 21 athletes selected to attend the BC Ski Team Summer Camp, with the goal of qualifying for full inclusion in the BC Ski Team for the 2016 season. The camp will run in Mt. Hood, Oregon, from June 30th through July 11th, 2015.
The number of BC Athletes attending US Colleges on skiing scholarships is increasing, with Alix Wells (Prince George Ski Club) heading to Alaska, and Martin Grasic (Windermere Valley Ski Club) going to Utah. We have moved a number of athletes into great schools over the last few years, allowing them to continue training and ski racing while pursuing their academic goals. This in itself is an excellent reason to keep ski racing through your high school years!
Moving into June, testing is mostly complete and the athletes are preparing for another summer of fun, hard training with the BCST. Nick Cooper steps into the BC Alpine Head Coach position after leading a very successful men’s team last year. Nick will be overseeing program design and implementation of both the men’s and women’s BC Ski Teams. Ryan Jazic is back as Head Coach of the ladies’ team, and Pierre Luc (PL) Dumoulin leaves the National Women’s Development Team to take over Nick’s former role as Head Coach of the men’s team.
"I'm really looking forward to getting back on snow and in the gym with this crew and staff”, said Cooper. “We will continue to build on the philosophy of hard work and pushing limits during this summer prep period. The plan is huge days in hood with a very busy summer in the gym, as well as lots of time on the yoga mats and mountain bikes in Whistler."
It’s great to have PL back in the BC system and he is looking forward to getting started.
“I am very excited to get on snow and in the gym with the guys”, said Dumoulin. “After a few weeks to finish school and recover from last season, it will be exciting to regroup and start building a strong foundation for the upcoming season. I am very excited to get involve with the group of athletes and top notch coaches.”
This summer’s athletes will be led by Team Captain Dominic Unterberger.
“Everyone knows what to expect this year when racing Nor-Ams”, said Unterberger. “The field is deep and the room for mistakes is small. We have a really tightknit group of guys again this year with a high top speed. We know the level we need to be at and I believe we're all capable of skiing to that level and beyond”

“For this upcoming year the women are trying to build on the past Nor-Am season”, said Head Coach Ryan Jazic. “While they gained much experience, they also proved that they can compete for top Nor-Am results this year. Last season they learned not just how hard they have to work, but also how far they have to push themselves to get to the top. Having last season under their belts, they have a good idea of what it's like, what to expect and how to prepare for it. Looks to be really fun gunning for the top!”
“Looking back, it was a great season with the BC Ski Team”, said women’s team top performer Stephanie Gartner. “I reached a few of my goals throughout the season and had an awesome team to back me up! I think being a part of a strong team is what pushes people to the next level and I have BC to thank for that! I am excited to get back on snow as part of the national team’s training group, and I am ready to push harder and longer so I can be faster!”
